Most people who are part-time gamers only end up playing the better games on the market, so there are never exposed to the ridiculous quality of Big Rig: Off The Road Racing. It's so bad that I'm tempted to get it and see for myself just how bad it is.

Malcolm Gladwell Is An Accidental Guru
Fast Company had an article on Malcolm Gladwell which I had neglected to blog about for awhile. Malcolm is a successful reporter with two books under his belt (the second having been released recently) and speaking gigs throughout the States. However, Fast Company posits that Malcolm Gladwell is an accidental guru.
What's It Like To Be A Detective?
The job of a homicide detective has been glorified by the various TV shows that focus on good guys catching bad guys. Of course, like most of the things we see on the TV, it's not necessarily real. A cop from Chicago has spoken out about what it's really like to be a homicide detective, which talks about a lot of stuff you don't see on TV.

Javascript is a Mixed Up Beast
Javascript is the most common client side scripting language on the web, but it is a really mixed up language. There are a variety of things wrong with Javascript including naming conventions, syntax and language design. The saving grace of course, is that it works.
Sony Should Have Adopted MP3
After losing the portable music player market to Apple, Sony has finally admitted that they made a mistake by not allow the MP3 standard to be playable on their portable music devices. I thinkt they should have come to the realization a long time ago as they've lost a lot of customers already.

Ten Reasons To Go To McDonalds
Recent media such as Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me have made McDonald's out to be the enemy, but it can't be said that going to McDonalds is all bad. Someone even went as far as to publish ten reasons to goto Mcdonalds.

Google recently had a seminar...somewhere in which they talked about Google the company. Some of the more interesting things about the history of Google surfaced and is a good read.

Office With The Cheapest Rent
The makers of Delicious Library for Mac have probably the cheapest rent of any startup; their office is a coffee shop in Seattle. They just kinda show up every morning and work over wifi. Pretty cool.

Shockingly University Degrees Are Not All Real
So report has it that a high ranking official in the United States government "bought" her Master's and PhD degrees from a diploma mill. Oh that's not too bad you say, but she was the Department of Homeland Security’s deputy chief information officer! I thought counter terrorism was important.

Got O.D.B?
O.D.B.'s real name was Russell Jones and he lived in Brooklyn. The New Yorker has a story about the Russell Jones that lived in Brooklyn, except he's neither dead nor O.D.B. In fact, the last few years Russell Jones received a lot of calls where the caller thought he was in fact O.D.B. Hilarity sometimes ensues.

The First Gaming God
If you still don't think you can live off playing games, then read the story of Matt Leto, alias Zyos the top ranked Halo player in the world. Perhaps what's the most amazing about him is that he's not just good at Halo, he's good at any game.
Dogs
Fido doesn't corner the market on pet owners that look like their pets, there are lots of other dog owners that look like their dogs. I think it's just makeup and photoshop that make them seem that similar.
Yet More Damning Evidence
I don't know why residents of the States need more studies to show that American culture is making them fat. Anyways, if you do, there's been a study that immigrants that've lived in the States for more than 10 years develop obesity much more frequently than if they lived in their homeland.

The Money Of The Future
It looks like the trend for the future is to have plastic money. Basically, they're better because they last longer, don't confuse machines as much and are more secure against counterfeiting. It's only a matter of time, unless of course we switching to using coins and plastic (ack) for everything

More About Mashups
The New Yorker has an article introducing the brief history of mashups -- basically mixed songs on top of one another. It's a good intro article and this area of music will only continue to get more popular.
Using Jigsaw Puzzles as Interview Puzzles
Research into behaviour while putting jigsaw puzzles together show that people fall into certain groups based on their leadership and teamworking skills. I think this would be a pretty useful test for HR people to hire the right people on their team, although it would be difficult for them to get people to act like themselves under hiring conditions.
